Video Editing Services: A Practical Hiring Guide

Choose video editing services in Nepal with a clear brief for your footage, captions, final formats and review process.
Picture a 40-minute interview that needs a finished YouTube episode, three vertical clips and English captions. “Edit the video” does not describe that job well enough to compare quotes. This guide shows how to define the work, prepare your files and review the result. House of Legends provides episode and short-form editing in Paknajol, Thamel; projects needing filming also need a production scope.
Decide what the finished video must do
Start with the audience and one useful outcome. A founder interview may explain a service, while a podcast episode needs to preserve a longer conversation. A short clip needs enough context to make sense on its own. These jobs use different structures even when they come from the same recording.
Share the intended platform, approximate final length and a reference video. Explain which parts of the reference you like: pacing, subtitle placement, colour or use of graphics. Asking for the same style without identifying those choices leaves the editor guessing.
Separate an episode edit from a short-form package
- Full episode: identify the opening, sections to remove, camera angles, audio cleanup and any titles or end screens.
- Short clips: agree the number of clips, approximate duration, horizontal or vertical framing and who selects the moments.
- Captions: specify the spoken language, written language, spelling of names and whether translation is needed.
- Delivery: list video exports, thumbnail needs and any separate audio or subtitle files.
A quote for one finished episode does not automatically include a pack of Reels, YouTube Shorts and thumbnails. A finished episode, vertical clips and thumbnails are separate deliverables. List each one in the quote before comparing providers.
What podcast editing services can include
A podcast edit can be a full episode, a set of short clips, or both. House of Legends can prepare a clean full-length edit with balanced speech, then create vertical clips for YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and TikTok. Captions, platform-ready exports and thumbnail support can also be included when they are part of the agreed package.
List each deliverable separately. For example, one 45-minute episode, four vertical clips, corrected English captions and a YouTube thumbnail is a clearer request than asking for complete editing. It gives the editor enough detail to estimate the work and prevents confusion at handover.
Send organised footage and a usable brief
Keep original camera files and audio recordings in labelled folders. Tell the editor how many cameras were used, how long the material runs and whether separate microphone tracks exist. Send the original files rather than a compressed copy forwarded through a messaging app.
Include your logo, approved brand colours, name spellings and any graphics you already own. Mark must-keep and must-remove moments with timestamps. Share sensitive-content instructions before the first cut, especially for interviews that mention clients, confidential work or personal experiences.
For Nepali, English or mixed-language conversations, appoint someone who can approve meaning as well as spelling. Automatic captions are a starting point, particularly when speakers switch languages or use local names. Confirm subtitle correction and translation responsibilities in the brief.
Compare scope before comparing price
Editing effort depends on the source footage, final runtime, audio condition, number of camera angles, graphics, caption languages and clip count. A short final video can still require substantial work if it must be assembled from hours of unorganised recordings.
Ask for separate lines for the main edit, clips, subtitles, graphics and extra review rounds. Confirm the delivery date, applicable taxes, payment terms and whether source project files or raw footage are part of the handover. Request a scoped estimate from the footage and deliverables. There is no useful universal editing rate because source material and review needs vary.
Use one clear review process
Collect feedback from your team into one timestamped list. Instead of saying the introduction feels wrong, identify the section to shorten and the message that should lead. Agree who can approve the final version and how changes after approval will be handled.
Check the final export on a phone and with headphones. Watch for cropped faces, difficult captions, incorrect names, uneven speech levels and missing context. YouTube recommends retaining the frame rate used during recording; its upload guidance is a useful reference for delivery settings.
Questions to ask a video editor in Nepal
Can you edit footage recorded outside your studio?
Send a sample and describe the camera and audio files. Ask HOL to confirm suitability, transfer arrangements and scope before assuming that every external recording can be repaired or matched to a studio result.
How quickly can an edit be delivered?
Turnaround depends on material, outputs, review availability and the current schedule. Agree the first-cut date and final delivery date separately. Do not plan a launch around an unconfirmed deadline.
What should I send for a quote?
Send source footage duration, camera count, target runtime, platforms, clip count, caption languages, references and deadline. If you still need filming, read our video production guide first.
