Tool guide

Remove a portrait background online

Turn a photo of one person into a cutout with a transparent background. This browser tool uses portrait matting to separate the person from the scene, then saves the result as a PNG you can place over another color or image.

Use a well-lit photo with clear contrast around the subject. Fine hair, motion blur and backgrounds similar to clothing can leave rough edges. For products or other non-portrait subjects, try object selection instead.

How to use it

  1. Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP portrait.
  2. Select Remove background and wait for the model to process the image.
  3. Compare the original and result, then download the transparent PNG.

Common questions

Does this work for products and pets?

This model is trained for portrait matting and works best on people. Object selection is a better starting point for other subjects.

Why do some edges look soft?

Hair, blur and low contrast make foreground boundaries hard to estimate. Try a sharper photo with clearer separation from the background.
